Nagpur News : Dr. Vasant Khalatkar, President of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), represented India at the International Critical Emergency Medicine Conference (ICEMC) and the Emergency Chapter of the Turkey Academy of Pediatrics (ETAP), held in Antalya Turkey . The conference was organized by the World Academic Council of Emergency Medicine (WACEM) in collaboration with ETAP.
At the event, Dr. Khalatkar delivered a talk on “Skin as an Alarming Organ in Pediatric Emergencies,” which received special appreciation from international delegates. Till date Emergency Medicine was primarily focused on adult patients. He emphasized need to involve children as they are future adults and Pediatric emergencies must receive equal attention. His strong advocacy convinced the Organizers to officially include Pediatric Emergency Medicine as a recognized specialty within their Esteemed Body — a historic achievement.
During the conference, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between WACEM and the Indian Academy of Pediatrics to collaborate at the international level. As the first step, an International Pediatric Emergency Medicine Conference will be held in Mangalore in November 2025, with nearly 200 international faculty members already committed to participate.This marks the first time an Indian academic organization has formally collaborated with an International emergency medicine body.
Global leaders such as Dr. Chander Basar (World President, WACEM – Turkey), Dr. Lisa (Secretary, WACEM – Hungary), Dr. Sagar Galwankar (Advisor, WACEM – USA), and Dr. Joseph (Key Stakeholder, WACEM – Lebanon) praised Dr. Khalatkar and the IAP 2025 team for their visionary efforts.
The entire leadership of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics — Dr. Basavaraj, Dr. Neelam Mohan, Dr. Parikh, and Dr. Atanu Bhadra — along with prominent Nagpur IAPians including Dr. Bodhankar, Dr. R.G. Patil, Dr. Shilpa Hazare (President, IAP Nagpur), Dr. Kailash Vaidya (Secretary, IAP Nagpur), Dr. Avinash Gawande, and Dr. Deopujari, congratulated Dr. Vasant Khalatkar on this significant achievement.
