CENSPORTS 2021 COMMENCES WITH A GRAND VIRTUAL INAUGURAL
Censports 2021 in its second online edition commenced with a grand virtual inaugural on 08/07/2021. The function was telecast live on Youtube at 11:30 IST.
Censports is the annual Inter-School sports meet hosted by Centre Point School, Amravati Road Bypass to encourage sports at the grass-root level. However, due to safety concerns arising as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic, Censports is being conducted on a virtual platform. This has enabled Censports to acquire an international reach. This year the participation in Censports has been at a record high with 3787 entries of 2853 contestants from 361 schools and the nine-day long inter-school sports meet is all set to become a grand online sporting event.
The sports Chess, Karate (Kata), Speedcubing, Yoga will be conducted online during the Censports with Sports Quiz as a new addition.
Censports was officially declared open by the Director of Centre Point Group of Schools, Mrs Radhika Rajwade Ma’am. Radhika Ma’am in her address wished the participants the best for the sporting event; she also appreciated the enthusiasm on part of the staff for organising the event and on the participants for taking up the challenge of online sports.
To mark the commencement of Censports, the Founder Principal and Advisor of Centre Point School, Amravati Road Bypass, Mrs Radhika Mehra Ma’am, Principal, Centre Point School, Amravati Road Bypass, Mrs Perveen Cassad, Vice-Principal, Mrs Bhakti Bobde, HOD Sports Department, Centre Point School, Amravati Road, Mr Chetak Khedikar released the balloons.
Head Coach and Director of the Nikhil Kanetkar Badminton Academy, Mr Nikhil Kanetkar joined in to motivate the participants by sharing his valuable experiences with the contenders. Mr Kanetkar has represented India at numerous sporting events like the Thomas Cup, All England Open, Asian Games, World Championships, Commonwealth Games, SAF Games, Swiss Open and the French Open. He emphasized the importance of participation rather than focusing only on winning. He added that sports serve as an important medium in teaching us to embrace failure and eventually rise above it.
Mr Rajeev Balakrishnan, the swiftest sprinter of the ’90s who had represented India in the 2000 Summer Olympics had graced the occasion. He extended his best wishes to all the participants and shared excerpts from his journey. He urged the participants to focus on enjoying the sport and giving it their best shot instead of stressing over winning or losing it. He also shared a few tips on how the participants could analyse their performance and work on improving it.
The school choir sang a motivational melody to lift the spirits of the participants.
The Executive Director of Centre Point Group of Schools Mrs Mukta Chatterjee Ma’am in her address wished the participants the very best and acknowledged the efforts taken by the school and the organizers for conducting Censports online.
The inaugural function concluded with a vote of thanks wherein gratitude was expressed towards the Directors of the school and the dignitaries for their presence and for guiding the participants.
The organisers of the Censports from the Sports for All team also thanked for their noteworthy efforts in organising and supporting the Censports. The first round of sporting events of the Censports begins tomorrow i.e. on 09/07/2020. Stay tuned for regular updates
